This volume contains "God's Man" (1929) , "Madman's Drum" (1930) , and "Wild Pilgrimage" (1932) . Four essays by Ward on the craft of cutting woodprints are also included in the volume. Art Spiegelman contributed an essay on Ward's importance to the modern graphic novel. A chronology, Notes on the Texts, and Notes have been included and compiled by the editors.
