Illustrated with lovely colour and black & white pictures by Savile Lumley. 54 pages. Constance Heward was the author of the popular Ameliaranne series. Savile Lumley was a popular book illustrator and poster designer. He also provided the drawings for several magazines and comics including The Boy's Own Paper, The Champion Annual, Chatterbox and Little Folks. During the First World War he designed the famous poster, Daddy, what did you do in the Great War? . 1st Edition. Hardback.

The blue cloth cover is worn ant the edges and corners and there are a few small splits. The binding is still reasonably firm and there are no loose or missing pages but page 27/8 has a tear at the top edge. The first blank page has a previous owner's name. Inside there are some grubby marks and foxing which is mostly moderately light but widespread on some pages..

This is a 5-volume lot of DICKENS' WORKS, published in 1900 by Peter Fenelon Collier & Son New York.
The original set was 30 volumes. A limited edition was leather-bound; the rest were bound in burgundy cloth.
This is five of the volumes of that set.
All are plain, with bright gilt printing on the side panels. Each book is 6" x 8".

Luxurious presentation edition (relié toile, tranches dorées),text block gilded on three sides. undated but probably around 1905. Author is also known as Marie Malezieux. Numerous engravings by Gilbert. Pages somewhat browned and some splitting on left side of spine. Otherwise very good.See photos. This is probably a "First thus" published by Flammarion. All reasonable offers considered

Very Rare First edition 1928 hardcover by a New Zealand authoress, Jean Devanny. She was a pioneer writer and the author of "The Butcher Shop". The spine of the jacket states this book is "a powerful study of a woman's personality in a remote New Zealand bush town". The text has no writing and is in good condition with only lightly faded pages. The jacket is worn with a few tears and crinkles plus rubbing, but still colorful. It is adhering to the cloth covered boards and there is foxing to boards. Hinges are intact. Good binding.
