London: Macdonald & Co Ltd 280pp inc colour illustrated EPs and frontis and other colour and b+w illustrations - Undated but about 1950, part of the publisher's "Illustrated Junior Library" series. A beautifully illustrated retelling of the ancient myths. Covers (beige cloth with red and black knights to front board and black titles to the spine) has some edgewear and lightly bumped corners. FPDP shows signs of this having been a school library book, but rest of book is clean and tight. DJ (price-clipped) has numerous nicks and creases and a 1.5-inch closed tear near top oof spine on front panel.. First Edition (apparently). Pictorial Cloth. Very Good/Very Good. Illus. by Florian. 5.5 x 8.5". Ex-Library.

First of this trade edition: Small Crown Quarto edition; a 1911 edition was printed by Ricardi Press Books. 18 color plates in each volume by Russell Flint. Barbara and Alan Lupack, authors of "King Arthur in America" praise Flint's ability to capture "the essential beauty of Malory's romance, " and write that "as a series, the watercolors constituted one of the most comprehensive, and still largely unsurpassed, renderings of the legends by a single artist." Green embossed cloth, 2 bookplates in each volume. Head and heel worn, spine crack down the middle to volume 1, secured, 2 inch chip at corner of heel, wear along spine edges, 5/8 chip at head. Boston: The Medici Society Ltd, 1925. 1st US. Hard Cover. Good/Poor. Undated (circa 1910-1920). "With 36 Illustrations in Full Colour." Likely the first American edition thus. Text, pages and blue cloth covers clean and intact. Name to front endpapers. Top edge gilt. Page edges worn and soiled. Dust jackets present but very worn with significant cracking, heavy chipping to edges and with missing section to lower spine of volume one jacket. Front panels of both DJ's also separated via cracking from rest of DJ at hinge area. Jacket front covers present with color illustrations intact. Scarce to find this edition with both volumes together and with jacket in any condition. Please see image. Two volumes. 439 and 531 pages.
