Cincinnati: Poe and Hitchcock, 1862. First edition. Hardcover. Fair/No jacket. 760 pages, illustrated with numerous black and white plates, some tissue protected. A bound collection of an early magazine printed during the Civil War. Red blindstamped cloth binding with gilt decorations on front cover and spine and gilt titles on spine. Personalized with the name of the owner, Annie Soule. Long presentation on the front free end paper in a lovely hand stating that the book was presented to George F. Cathcart by his sister, Annie Soule upon her death in 1868, signed by their mother. Some edge wear to cover with darkening and spotting, cloth split along spine edges, corners and spine ends bumped and chipped, gilt a bit faded and rubbed, front hinge weak showing webbing, first plate partially detached from binding, interior pages foxed and tanned, binding otherwise tight with one section misbound with edges that do not align with others.
