Well bound in half calf over marbled boards, complete with 98 pages of maps and engravings, plus 4 large folding maps of the British Isles. Folio. 15.75" x 10.25" x 2.25". pp.525/[4pp. - List of Subscribers...]. Brown calf spine with red leather title label: "British Traveller", and gilt publication date: "1784", over marbled boards. Recent clean endpapers (handmade paper). Original free-endpaper, carefully repaired with a hand-written index in a contemporary hand. Fine engraved frontis by "Thornton sculp. ; after "Hamilton delin." Edges chipped and carefully strengthened. Facing a printed title-page. Clean English text throughout in double columns. Some leaves with a brown blemish to the centre of the page, and 5 leaves carefully repaired with loss of a few words of text. With 28 pages containing one full-page engraving (one carefully repaired with 30% loss; one by "Page scu." ; and one by "Carey sculp."); with 46 pages containing two engravings (some engravings by "Taylor Sculp."; "Roberts Sculpt."; or "Thornton sculp."); with 5 pages containing three engravings; with 3 pages containing one full-page map (by "T. Conder sculpt."); with 12 pages containing two maps (some engraved by T. Conder Sculp.; and some by "Hatchett Sculpt.) ; with 2 pages containing three maps (engraved by T. Conder Sculp.); with 2 pages containing four maps (engraved by T. Conder Sculp.) Plus 2 folding Maps of: England & Wales; one of Scotland; and one of Ireland. All maps creased with small careful repairs to folds and edges. .
