"Really intense and progressive people count the calories in carrots and the vitamins in veal and advise us to live on raw cabbage.This book is not for them,but for the bad lots who openly admit that they like the pleasures of the table and who enjoy life".

A very good copy in an attractive contemporary leather binding. Half black morocco. Spine with raised bands, each with gilt decoration. Compartments double ruled and lettered in gilt. Red title label, ruled and lettered in gilt. Morocco grained cloth on boards. Coated yellow endpapers. All edges gilt. A lovely copy.:

Tan morocco title label with gilt, lettering, ruling and leaves. Smaller label has "Oxford" within gilt ruling. Beige cloth on boards. Top edge gilt. Previous owners five line inscription from1919, written neatly in ink on front free endpaper. .A very good, bright copy.

A few pages with marks and spots but overall a very good copy in a fine early full leather binding, by Sotheran & Co, of full burgundy Morocco. Spine with raised bands, each ruled in gilt. The compartments fully decorated and lettered in gilt. Decorative and ruled gilt borders to the boards. Decorative gilt roll to board edges and inner dentelles.
