South Brunswick: Thomas Yoseloff, 1969. Translated from the Yiddish by poet Etta Blum 8vo size black clothbound hardcover with dust jacket; 232 bright, clean pages. From jacket: "Twenty-seven entertaining stories...deal at first with the Eastern Europe of the author's youth, and later the America to which he ventured at the age of 18. They are illuminated with Old World tradition but give us equally insights into the immigrant's first reactions to life in the United States. Here are stories of Chelm...of Lublin and the Warsaw of tailor's apprentices; of the New York City of Ellis Island, the sweatshops and Carnegie Hall. They are stories of places, and of the people who inhabit them." "For most of his career, the author wrote under the pseudonym of B. Alquit, but during his later years he wished his work to appear under his own name Eliezer Blum. Consequently, it was thought bet to combine his two names for all posthumous publications, hence Eliezer Blum-Alquit." Eliezer Blum was born in Chelm, Poland in 1896 and died in the United States in 1963. Jacket has edgewear and some chipping to jacket at top of spine. Jacket appears to be price clipped.
