He crossed over the Sierra Nevada by way of Carson Pass, and arrived at Ringgold, near Placerville, on October 21, a total of 160 days from departure. The overland journey occupied the first 180 pages of the book, with the balance devoted to describing California and the return trip via Nicaragua...." Cowan p.383.
