The author was a reporter for a Chicago newspaper, who covered various incidents in the West, most notably the Johnson County War in Wyoming. Despite the novelistic form, actual names are used and the author gives an interesting narrative of some events. Besides the cattle interest, some Indian material is also included. Adams Herd 493.
