Two quarter page woodengravings, each 5 x 5 inches on sheet size 15 3/4 x 11 inches, from January 17, 1885 Harper's Weekly. 1/2 inch ink spot to left upper margin (just outside image area); very good condition. Two political cartoons by Thomas Nast. One illustrating colonialism at work with German, British, and Russian figureheads reaching out over Africa and Asia with grab-bags at the ready; the other showing Navy Secretaries George Robeson and William Chandler encased in glass on a Navy Department Shelf, "the art of preserving timber has no practical value whatever." .
