This volume contains an interpretation of 48 of La Fontaine's fables for children. There are 8 full page colour illustrations by Tilney. Hard to find in this 1913 edition, more common in the budget edition issued in the 1930's. Green cloth binding with gilt embossing to upper board and backstrip. Paste down illustration to upper board. For those not familiar with la Fontaine, many of Aesop's fables were taken from the originals by la Fontaine and duly attributed to him. Condition: Corners and top / bottom of backstrip bent; backstrip sunned. Last colour plate torn, now repaired. Contents clean. 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall.
