Salem, Oregon: Arthur H. Clark, (1876). “Centennial Edition 1876”. coloured paper mounted on cloth backing mounted to wooden spool spindles and wooden wall brackets. Minor creases and wear, else excellent. Approximately 27 inches of chart plus 1/4 inch margins top and bottom tall, approximately 21-1/2 feet wide plus margins. Profusely illustrated Stamped in decorative letters on the back “Manufactured Expressly for Home Use” This “second edition and seventh thousand carefully, and critically revised and brought down to 1876” is a wonderful historical time line with the upper third Biblical history and the lower two thirds world history to the time of 1876. Adams makes the opening statement “The object of this chart is to assist the mind in clearly fixing along down the stream of time the time when the events of the world too place. The time when (i.e. Chronology) and the place where (i.e. Geography) are the two great eyes of history”. The chart begins in 4004 B.C. with Adam and Eve and ends in 1876 with the presidency of U.S. Grant, and shows people, events, places, countries etc. along a line which begins as one, splits up into several, often rejoins into one and so on. Text is intermingled with images, maps and charts. The portraits of the famous and historical figures are oftentimes suprisingly detailed, and the images to illustrate ideas are ingenious. Fascinating to look at and even today a wonderful teaching tool.

Black boards quarterbound by leather (with faded, bumped and bruised leather corners as well) with gilt and black lettering on the front board. Very very rare and hard-to-find title! Colored panorama joined and mounted on linen, lacquered, folding into original folio covers. Half calf. "A riot of color and detail." Second "Centennial" edition.
