First American edition and first English translation of this classic, basis of the 1956 film "Around the World in 80 Days," winner of five Oscars including best picture. Correct first issue with no reference to the translator on the title page, one frontis illustration (Vern'e own yacht, "Le Sanit Michel") repeated in gilt on the front cover. Tooled red cloth, red text edges, gilt titles and decorations are bright and unfaded. Corners lightly rubbed, spine slant as is often the case with this volume, three previous owner's names written on front endpaper, the first of which is dated 1873. .

First American edition, first edition in English, first printing without translators name on title page. Measuring approximately 6" x 4.5" with 291 numbered pages. This book is in good condition. Moderate bumping and tear to both ends of spine. Gilt lettering and design on spine and front board still full and vivid. Heavy staining to both boards. Book is cocked causing an overbite to the textblock. Front hinge is cracked. Moderate foxing to interior pages. Phileas Fogg is a wealthy English gentleman living a solitary life in London.
