Rubbing and wear are present to the extremities; spine caps are frayed. An area on the front board (bottom quarter) is lightly dented, causing some tearing/splitting on the verso paste down leaf. End papers are toned and show light scattered foxing. A name and a number-letter code [?] are written in pen on the rear free end-paper. Interior pages contain an occasional light marginal pencil mark. Horace Fletcher (1849-1919), a native of Lawrence Massachusetts and an early food-faddist, developed a system of chewing food called "fletcherism" which he claimed would help people eat less, improve their digestion, and increase their strength and vitality.
