1879. Very Good. Broadside of 12" x 5 `1/2", blank backed. Engraving of Uncle Tom and Little Eva lower portion. Advetisement for a performance of "Uncle Tom's Cabin" at English's Dramatic Lyceum Mechanic Hall (place not specified) on a Wednesday evening, Nov. 12. (presumably 1879). It trumpets "Mr. E.W. Beattie" as Uncle Tom and Little Helen as Eva; the rest of the cast is identified as well by their last names. The play was " interspersed with Singing and Dancing.." with four musical numbers specified including "Old Folks At Home" sung by Uncle Tom. Some light staining here and there. A note on the presumed dating: E.W. Beattie was noted in December 1876 in "The Clipper" newspaper as having played in Uncle Tom at the Music Hall in Portland, Maine on Nov. 20-22; in the second paragraph from the bottom a performance of this company amd particularly Little Helen in Portland is noted as "the Greatest Dramatic Triumph ever Achieved… Read More

Staple bound in photo illustrated wrappers. 48 pp. Generally fine with a tiny flaw right edge of front cover and a small "1948" handwritten date lower right. Original Playbill Magazine for the week of November 15, 1948 for the Broadway performance of "Mr. Roberts" at the Alvin Theater in New York. This performance featured the original cast of Henry Fonda as Mister Roberts, Robert Keith as Doc, William Harrigan as The Captain, David Wayne as ensign Pulver. "Mister Roberts" won the "Best Play" Tony for 1948. The play was based on the novel of the same name by Thomas Heggen. Henry Fonda originated the role of the title character, having been released for a movie contract in order to accept the part, and won the Tony Award as Best Actor. He reprised his role for 1955 film version.

New York: Samuel French, 1977. Softcover. Fine. Printed blue stiff wrappers. 154 pp. plus publisher's ads at rear. Foreword by Le Gallienne. Fine, unused copy (play retailer sticker on front cover and with their royalty notice tipped in after title page). Interior bright and unmarked. Le Gallienne and Friebus originally wrote the play, based on Carroll's "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland" and "Through The Looking Glass" the play in 1932 when it premiered with the Civic Repertory Theatre Company; they revised and rewrote it in 1947 when it opened on Braodway with Le Gallienne herself playing the White Queen. It was revived on Broadway in 1982 with Le Gallienne co-directing. In 1985 , a Great Performances televison presentation was made with an all star cast that included Eve Arden, Kaye Ballard, Kate Burton (in the title role), Richard Burton, James Coco, Colleen Dewhurst, Nathan Lane, Donald O'Connor,a nd others.

As a director an dproducer he was instrumental in helping launch the careers of several early 20th century actors. Broadway's Henry Miller Theater , located at 124 W. 43 Street in New York City, was replaced by a modrn structure in 2009 and is now named for Stephen Sondheim.
