Spine repaired with a paper band, the covers with minor tears and losses, otherwise very good and clean internally. One of 5000 copies. Interesting edition from the early period of Soviet aviation. This practical manual was dedicated to glider construction as the basis of the aircraft production. The text is supplemented with 93 technical drawings and 17 tables. In Russia, the earliest gliding society was founded in 1918 under "Flying Laboratory", the Moscow theoretical institution headed by aviators N. Zhukovsky, V. Vetchinkin and N. Anoshchenko. This society of amateurs and enthusiasts first held the Crimea gliding competitions in 1923. Gradually, the event gathered more and more participants and some of them appeared every year. First edition. 1 of 2,500 copies. An interesting book about etching and engraving with a chisel written by Vadim Falileev (1879-1950), a noted Russian and Soviet graphic artist and painter. At different times, Falileev studied at the Penza Art School, the Kiev art school, and the Imperial Academy of Arts under Vasily Mate (1856-1917). Vadim was the first to work in the technique of engraving on linoleum, creating a series of brilliant works that demonstrated the wide graphic possibilities of this technique. Cover design and 7 vignettes were produced by artist Eugeniia Pribyl'skaia (1899-1938) who revived and developed folklore arts. Together with avant-garde artist Alexandra Exter, she held the exhibition of decorative arts in 1915. After the October Revolution, she engaged in the production of folk toys, rugs and was attracted to the activity of experimental textile and costume workshops. First edition published under the title Iskusstvo i proletarskoye gosudarstvo [i.e. Art and Proletarian State] in 1921. The front wrapper was most likely designed by the Soviet artist and book illustrator Alexander Malushin. A student of Vladimir Favorsky, Malushin was one of the first members of the Moscow Union of Artists. One of the first Soviet books on revolutionary tasks of art compiled by the writer Mikhail Frantsev. Second enlarged edition published the same year as the first one. After five editions were printed, the book was banned in 1930. It is the first and the best known work by Soviet venereologist Lev Fridland (1888-1960). He had been studying at the Medical department of Kyiv University until he was drafted into the army as a doctor. Later he passed graduation exams at Don University. In the 1910s, Fridland worked in hospitals in the Southern part of the Russian Empire. During the Civil War, Fridland was sentenced to death by Whites and then imprisoned for four years of hard labor until the release by the Reds. In the early USSR, Fridland practiced freely and prolifically wrote about medical cases.
