London: Collins Crime Club, 1963. First Edition. Hardcover. Near Fine/Very Good. Signed. Signed first UK edition/first printing of MacDonald's tenth Lew Archer crime novel, preceded in 1962 by the US edition. Red Crime Club boards with black titles. Book is square, tight, clean and bright with minimal shelf wear. Dustwrapper has minor chipping to extremities, a half-inch closed tear to the bottom front panel, a one inch closed tear to the top back panel and a 3/4 inch triangular tear 1/8 widening to 3/8 inch on the lower back panel - none of these affect any text or decoration. The dustwrapper looks terrific, despite its flaws and is colorful and bright - very 60s artwork. The big deal with this book is that it is signed by the author directly to the title page. All of our first editions are first printings unless otherwise noted. Dustwrappers are protected with clear archival wraps and we pack each book like it's a Tiffany egg.
