Jackson, MS: Mississippi Freedom Democratic Party, [1964]. Paperback. Document produced by the Mississippi Freedom Democratic Party (MFDP), established in 1964 to challenge discrimination based on race in the electoral process, and formed out of the collaborative efforts of the NAACP, SNCC, and CORE. The MFDP challenged the legitimacy of the regular Mississippi Democratic Party (MDP), which allowed participation by whites only, despite African Americans making up 40% of the state's population. The document reprints sections of the MDP's platform and principles (which includes their belief in the segregation of the races), excerpts from campaign literature from Paul B. Johnson's 1963 campaign for governor, and the MDP's stance regarding the dangers of "overnight Republicans" to the status quo in Mississippi. Quite likely produced for internal distribution to MFDP members. Not listed in OCLC, though we note a copy held at Emory. Quarto (28cm); three leaves of pale green stock (8.5" x 11"), mimeographed on rectos and stapled at upper left corner. Hint of toning to extremities, else Fine.
