Portrait of Barent van Orley with a cap holding a glove in his hand.Copy after Collaert's portrait in 1572 Cock's edition of 'Pictorum aliquot Germaniae Inferioris Effigies'.The portrait is in fact in the same direction and bears also the inscription on the bottom:'DE BERNARDO BRUXELLENSI PICTORE' which in this case has been erased with crossed hatchings. Anvers, ca1600.. 19x24 Cm. Eau-forte et burin. Adriaen Collaert (1560-1618), Né à Anvers vers 1560, Adriaen Collaert est le fils de Hans Collaert et le frère de Jan Collaert. Il épouse en 1586 Justa Galle, la fille du graveur et éditeur Philippe Galle. Son activité se déroule à Anvers entre 1580 et 1618. Il devient franc-maître de la guilde de Saint-Luc en 1580. Adriaen Collaert dessine et grave des scènes de tradition chrétienne et de dévotion. Les deux frères Collaert associent leurs ateliers à celui de Philippe Galle et leur production commune ne permet pas toujours de bien les distinguer. Adriaen signe en général ses travaux Adrian. Collaert Sculp. ou Adr. Collart. excud. ou par un monogramme AC.

Small tear in the bottom-center sheet edge, appx 1/8 inch, scattered repairs, primarily at corners and sheet edges. Scattered staining. All consistent with age. First state (of 2), with the publisher's address of Adriaen Collaert, (before the addition of publishers Theodor and Jan Galle's address), with a Fish and Serpent watermark. [Hollstein 1474].
