Lance Armstrong: The Race of His Life Paperback - 2000

by Kristin Armstrong

Summary

All Aboard Reading!

The truly inspirational story of Lance Armstrong, the 1999 and 2000 Tour de France champion from Austin, Texas, who overcame cancer to become the number one cyclist in the world! Starting with Lance's childhood success at triathlons, the book follows his athletic career while dealing with the difficult subject of cancer--and how he did not let the disease stop him from achieving his dream.

From the publisher

Kristin Armstrong is a California native who now divides her time between Austin, Texas and the South of France. She graduated from Miami University in Oxford Ohio. In a previous life Kristin worked as a manager at a high technology company, and as an account executive for an advertising/public relations firm where she met her husband-to-be, Lance Armstrong.

She is now the oh-so-proud mother of a one-year old son named Luke and speaks halfway decent French. She enjoys running, reading, red wine and occasional tandem rides with her husband, Cancer survivor, Olympic medalist, and two-time Tour de France champion, Lance Armstrong. Lance and Kristin passionately support the fight against cancer and each other.

Why a book for children about her husband’s struggles? When Kristin was pregnant and trying to avoid the Texas heat, she stayed inside where it was air-conditioned and wrote these stories for their future child. Friends enjoyed them so much that they wanted copies for their kids, saying how hard it is to find a good role model these days. And so not long after, the book, and baby Luke, were born.

First line

There once was a boy named Lance Armstrong.
