About the author

MARION ELIZABETH REID Marion Reid, PhD, FIBMS, started her career as a medical technologist and has worked in immunohematology reference laboratories in England and the USA. She is currently the Director of the Laboratory of Immunohematology at New York Blood Center. Marion has an extensive serological, biochemical, and molecular knowledge of blood groups and has published more than 300 peer-reviewed articles, reviews, and chapters. Marion has served on numerous committees and editorial boards, is a reviewer for several journals, and has lectured extensively worldwide. She has received many prestigious awards including the 2006 International Woman in Transfusion Award. CHRISTINE LOMAS-FRANCIS Christine Lomas-Francis, MSc, FIBMS, was trained as a technologist in the M.R.C. Blood Group Unit in London and has worked in the Consultation and Education Department at Gamma Biologicals, Inc., Houston, Texas. She currently is the Technical Director in the Laboratory of Immunohematology at the New York Blood Center. Christine has a thorough serological, biochemical, and molecular understanding of blood groups, has lectured throughout the world, has served on committees, is a reviewer for several journals, and has exceptional editorial skills. Christine has co-authored over 50 articles in peer-reviewed journals and many reviews and chapters. Her awards include the Ivor Dunsford Memorial and the Kay Beattie Awards.
