Spanning the period from the 4th century to the late Ming Dynasty, with many examples in stone and some in bronze and wood, the collection is particularly strong in the period of the Northern Qi and the style of the Qingzhou site, Shandong Province. This period was a pinnacle in the artistic quality of Chinese stone carving and a number of the examples in the collection are among the finest known.
