About the author


Ibrahim Kalin is a faculty member at the Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal Center for Muslim-Christian Understanding, Georgetown University. Kalin has published widely on Islamic philosophy and the relations between Islam and the West. His book Knowledge in Later Islamic Philosophy: Mulla Sadra on Existence, Intellect and Intuition was published in 2010 with OUP, and his book Islam and the West was awarded the 2007 Writers Association of Turkey award for best book. He has contributed to several encyclopedias including MacMillan Encyclopedia of Philosophy 2nd Edition, Encyclopedia of Religion 2nd Edition, Biographical Encyclopedia of Islamic Philosophy and the Oxford Encyclopedia of the Islamic World. Kalin has lectured on contemporary issues in various parts of the world and has traveled extensively in both Islamic and Western countries. Before joining Georgetown University, he was a faculty member at the Department of Religious Studies at the College of the Holy Cross. Kalin is also the founding director of the SETA Foundation for Political, Economic and Social Research based in Ankara, Turkey.
