About the author

Sara McDowell is a Lecturer in Human Geography at the University of Ulster, UK. Her research focuses on the geography of memory and conflict in divided and transitional societies including Northern Ireland, South Africa, Israel/Palestine, Sri Lanka, the former Yugoslavia and the Basque Country. Her current research focuses on the dynamics of commemorative-related violence. Mire Braniff is a Lecturer in Sociology at the University of Ulster, UK. Her areas of expertise include conflict resolution, peace mediation and peace agreements. She is the author of Integrating the Balkans: From Conflict to Integration (2011) and co-author of the Democratic Unionist Party: From Power to Protest.
