Bill Stermer started riding in the 1960s, and became a moto-journalist when he joined Cycle magazine in 1978. Since then he has tested hundreds of motorcycles and has written more than two thousand articles. His first book, "Motorcycle Touring," was published in 1982 as a how-to for the touring rider. "On the Perimeter," published the following year, was the as-told-to autobiography of Hazel Kolb, "The Motorcycling Grandma," which he did for Harley-Davidson.After three years as editor of the trade magazine "Motorcycle Industry," Stermer's touring background led him to "Rider" magazine in 1990. That same year his third book, "Motorcycle Touring and Travel," was published. A second edition appeared in 1998. In 1994 Stermer again returned to free-lance writing. Today, his work regularly appears in "Rider," "American Rider," "Cruising Rider," "Powersports Business" and "V-Twin" magazines. His fifth book, "BMW R100RS," was published in 2002. This is his sixth book.In addition to writing, Stermer is an accomplished photographer and public speaker. He has appeared many times at the Americade rally in New York and at local club events.Stermer lives in Southern California with his wife Margery and their children, Paul and Julia.
