Alexander Macomb [1782-1841], one of the first officers trained at West Point, was a judge-advocate in the U.S. Army. He was decorated for his conduct in the Battle of Plattsburg during the War of 1812 and ended his career as commander-in-chief of the army, a post he filled with distinction.
