English summary: While the central importance of the sonnet is hardly in question, especially for European literature, its considerable musical reception has not received as much attention until now. There have been thousands of sonnet compositions since the fifteenth century, in various genres such as the Italian madrigal, the French chanson, and the German Kunstlied, and sonnet forms even appear in opera and instrumental music. These compositions provide an incredibly fertile field of research, which offers entirely new perspectives for an interdisciplinary exchange between music and literary studies, as well as for traditional studies on the sonnet. The complementary articles in this work come from the perspectives of musical studies and German, Romance, English and Slavic philology and they trace the interlocking conditions for the development of the sonnet, from literary production and poetic theory, composition techniques and aesthetics, as well as literary and musical reception, and they further analyze the various manifestations of sonnet composition across time and genres. German description: Wahrend die zentrale Bedeutung des Sonetts insbesondere fur die europaische Literatur kaum in Frage steht, wird seine enorme musikalische Rezeption gerade im Bereich der Literaturwissenschaften bisher nur wenig wahrgenommen. Dabei bieten Tausende von Sonettkompositionen seit dem 15. Jahrhundert in so verschiedenen Gattungen wie dem italienischen Madrigal, dem franzosischen Chanson, dem deutschen Kunstlied und sogar in Oper und Instrumentalmusik ein durchaus ergiebiges Forschungsfeld, das im interdisziplinaren Austausch zwischen Musik- und Literaturwissenschaft auch der traditionellen Sonettforschung ganz neue Perspektiven eroffnet. Die sich erganzenden Beitrage aus Musikwissenschaft, Germanistik, Romanistik, Anglistik und Slavistik spuren den wechselseitigen Voraussetzungen von literarischer Produktion und Dichtungstheorie, von Kompositionstechnik und -asthetik sowie literarischer und musikalischer Rezeption fur die Entstehung von Sonettvertonungen nach und analysieren die zahlreichen Erscheinungsformen von Sonettkompositionen.
