n/a: n/a, [1790]. First Edition. Cardboard covers. Very good. Early Manuscript Defense of the Critique of Pure Reason Original, one-of-a-kind handwritten manuscript defense of KantÂ’s Epistemology. 196-page manuscript in clear German cursive with some deletions and corrections, ink on clean paper. (1790?), Quarto. An extensive presentation and defense of Kant's theory of knowledge, probably written as the basis for a lecture or series of lectures. There are five main sections: • Einleitung (34 paragraphs) • Theorie des Vorstellungsvermögens überhaupt (30 paragraphs) • Theorie der Sinnlichkeit (35 paragraphs) • Theorie des Verstandes (64 paragraphs) • Kritik der bisherigen Methaphisick (21 paragraphs) Many of the paragraphs contain numbered “Anmerkungen" (further reflections). Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Contract
F. Scott Fitzgerald
Culver City, 1937
Typescript employment contract enclosed in stiff brown folder. 20 pages on legal paper dated August 21, 1937. Some minor creases along the margins, else Fine. Housed in a beautiful custom leather clamshell case. Initialed on page 2 and also signed at the end by Fitzgerald.
The contract is initialed and signed as well by studio vice-president and notorious "fixer" Eddie Mannix, a real-life Ray Donovan figure who was responsible for countless coverups of often serious crimes and dirty dealings involving stars like Spencer Tracy, Clark Gable, Joan Crawford, and George Reeves(Mannix is rumored to have been involved in his infamous and mysterious death) amongst many others.
Having faded into near oblivion, the American icon sought redemption in the West. His meteoric of meteoric rises, a decade of era-defining success,… Read More

Description:
New York: Simcha Productions, Inc, 1975. Vintage screenplay for the classic film of Watergate-era cynicism about the media and politics, with a famous exhortation by rattled newsman Howard Beale for viewers to open their windows and shout "I'm mad as hell and I'm not gonna take this anymore!" Brad bound in Studio Duplicating Service leatherette wrappers with gilt lettering. Title handwritten in black on spine. [i], 1-112, 114-147 pp. printed on rectos only. Page 113 torn out, else Very Good overall, small horizontal tear to spine, light soiling to wraps. Actor Lance Henriksen's copy with his inscription "Eddie!' on title page; he played an uncredited lawyer. He is best known for his role in the Alien film franchise as the android, Bishop. Uncommon. Changes between Paddy Chayefsky's acclaimed screenplay and the completed film are trims and revisions. Description:
New York: David H Burr, 1832. Map. Hand-colored engraving. 14 x 18.75 inches, with original brown leather booklet.

This important map of New York City was issued as a pocket map around 1832 by David Burr. It covers lower Manhattan from roughly 30th street south to include the northernmost parts of Brooklyn and Williamsburg, which at the time were separate cities. Incredibly detailed, it notes churches, ferry lines, government buildings, parks, squares, and other important landmarks. Columbia College is noted on Murray Street. The old Fulton Fish Market, St. Mark's Church in the East Village, and the nation's first hospital at Bellevue are also identified. Burr's Map Store is noted near City Hall, although we can't be sure if it was real or fictitious, made up specifically for this map. The map is in good condition with some spotting and toning, especially along the original fold lines. Some manuscript ink notations alone the top left margin. Backed with… Read More

Description:
Signed by Scalia as "Nino" and inscribed "with respect and affection" for Henry Abraham. Nino is the nickname Scalia acquired early in life, partly in remembrance of his grandfather, for whom he was named, and is how he was known to close friends.
The recipient is almost undoubtedly Henry J. Abraham, University of Virginia Law Professor, scholar on the judiciary and constitutional law, and friend to Scalia (as well as Justices Brennan, Powell, and Ginsberg). In his honor, Professor Abraham's former students and colleagues established the Abraham Distinguished Lecture Series at UVA Law School in 1997. Scalia was the 2010 Abraham Lecturer.
A fine copy in similarly fine, unclipped dust wrapper.
Association copies with Scalia's signature are uncommon indeed.

Preface leaf, contents leaf and 31 photolithographic plates, lightly tinted, apparently by stencil, framed and titled in gold and 20 lithograph floor plans. This is the first major work executed with photolithogrpahic plates in the United States. The success of photolithography was highly unpredictable, but this was one of the more successful experiments in comparison to Pouncy s Dorsetshire photographically illustrated (London & Dorchester, 1857) where the plates were more heavily retouched by hand. (TRUTHFUL LENS 171 & 132). Plates present plans and brown and green stencil tinted views of thirty large villas, each identified as to place, owner and architect. Description:
Signed by both Albert Schweitzer and his wife Helene. Books signed by Albert alone are uncommon; books signed by both Albert and Helene are scarce indeed.
While Albert received many of the accolades, including winning the 1952 Nobel Peace Prize for his "reverence for life" philosophy, Helene's biographer noted that she edited and proofread a number of Schweitzer's books in multiple fields as they worked together to realize their shared dream of devoting their lives to humanity. Together in 1913, Albert and Helene Schweitzer founded what is now the longest-running hospital established by Europeans in Africa, the Albert Schweitzer Hospital in current-day Gabon. With her quiet strength, clear sense of purpose, independent spirit, and wide range of skills and talents, Helene was a model for many other women who later served the Schweitzer Hospital.
