Biblio supports independent businesses and communities.
Biblio, Inc. is a small, privately held and self financed company located in Asheville, North Carolina. We are devoted to supporting independent, community businesses and are dedicated to a triple bottom line. This means we are committed to not only growing our company and its profits, but that we are also equally committed to supporting our colleagues and business partners, and fostering education and literacy.
Biblio puts people first.
Simply put, at Biblio, we put people first. We are committed to providing superior customer service to our book-buying customers and our partner booksellers, to providing a positive and joyful work environment for our colleagues, and to working towards community literacy and education.
Customer service: At Biblio, we strive to provide the highest level of service to our customers. Our customer service team is everyone in our company - that's right, everyone, including our senior management. We don't view customer service as simply a necessary operating cost. We view customer service as part of the heart and soul of our company, and think of it as truly our privilege to serve our customers.
Value: There is no mark up on books at Biblio. Not only that, but since the costs for our booksellers on Biblio are lower than any other major marketplace, our booksellers are able to pass this savings along to our customers. We set a minimum listing price of $1 USD on Biblio because we don't believe in the bait and switch tactic of books advertised for sale for a penny, with grossly inflated shipping costs.
Selection: With more than 50,000,000 books to choose from, we have something for every collecting or reading interest and budget from historical fiction to religion; from rare and collectible books to exclusive discounts on used books available only at Biblio. And, tens of thousands of new books are added every single day, so in the extremely rare event we can't find the book you're looking for, make sure and check back with us soon!
Supporting independent businesses: We work with over 5,500 independent book stores throughout the world, providing them with a marketplace for their often unique used, rare, and out-of-print books. More than likely, at least one of these stores is in your very own community (if so, please pay their storefront a visit sometime be sure to tell them hello for us). Some of our esteemed booksellers have been in the book trade for over 50 years. In fact, if you were to add up the combined experience of our booksellers, you would find that it stretches back at least 20,000 years or well before the last ice age! Your purchase on Biblio directly supports these small businesses, enabling them to continue their passion for service and excellence, and to continue to offer you substantial savings and choices for your reading or collecting pleasure.
Providing a positive workplace: With a staff of ten, we are a small, independent company like our partner booksellers. Our shareholders are our employees. We work in a flexible, open, and fun environment in an old, recycled warehouse. Although we are small, we are proud that we are able to offer our colleagues excellent compensation, and the same types of benefits as larger companies: quarterly profit-sharing, health insurance, retirement savings, continuing education, paid holidays and vacations, and paid community volunteer leave.
Empowering communities: In 2004, Biblio and its partner booksellers financed the construction of a community library in rural Bolivia, providing access to books and computer resources to an impoverished region that previously had no access to such materials. Out of this wonderful work, Biblio founded an independent non-profit organization known as BiblioWorks in 2005, dedicated to empowering communities through literacy and education. Since that time, Biblio has supported BiblioWorks both monetarily and through staff volunteer time towards the completion of 5 more community libraries in Bolivia.
