Profusely illustrated with photographs, drawings, maps, diagrams, charts, etc. During its time, the Lockheed P-38 Lightning was considered the most sophisticated aircraft Lockheed had ever built. In February 1937, the U.S. Army Air Corps released Specification X-608, a daunting requirement that called for speed, range, and climb capabilities impossible to achieve at that time with a single-engine aircraft. In Burbank, California, a Lockheed design team led by Hall Hibbard, and assisted by a young engineer named Clarence "Kelly" Johnson, immediately began a series of designs that would culminate in the contract-winning XP-38. Light stains on the wrappers, one leaf has pulled loose, else near fine. Trade catalog for nautical, ground, and aviation searchlights. On the rectos of each leaf is a large photograph in color of a searchlight (on a few pages two photographs appear; one photo is uncolored) with a printed description of the searchlight on the facing page. Colorful and engaging. Rare. *OCLC* locates a single copy at the Henry Ford Museum, that is almost certainly the same or similar to this with 19 pages (we assume they mean leaves) and attributes the date of 1920. Although this copy is undated that seems a reasonable guess.

A fascinating piece, in that it consists almost entirely of a long transcription by Pressburger of the true-life narrative by Sir George Corbett, which forms the basis for the film. Photo illustrations from the film throughout. Saddle-stapled illustrated self wrappers, 7 x 9 inches, 32 pages. Very Good, with some creasing to the wrappers but no loss or detachment.

This copy is inscribed by Edward Teller on the front flyleaf and also laid-in is a small photograph of Teller that he has signed. In this 1976 biography of Edward Teller, father of the hydrogen bomb, the authors present exclusive interviews, memorabilia, and photos provided by Teller. and delves into each stage of his life and career. The controversial Teller spearheaded America's effort to build the hydrogen bomb, and then testified against Robert Oppenheimer in his security clearance trial. [Olympia, WA], 1935. Silver gelatin composite photograph (250 x 200 mm) with small tear-off monthly calendar for 1936. Inscribed "Merry Christmas, The Bowmans". A few minor nicks and spots at the edges. Excellent, unused condition. A remarkable piece of early aviation ephemera, this calendar was produced as a Christmas greeting by the early female aviator Marguerite (Martie) Bowman (1901-1985) and her husband Leslie, also a pilot. It depicts Bowman flying in her WACO INF biplane, registration number NC625Y, in formation with two others, and includes portraits of Bowman, her husband, and their daughter Larnie Bowman Allen. We have learned from one of the Bowmans' grandchildren that Larnie joined the family profession, becoming a wing-walker at eight and soloing at twelve. The Bowmans established an aviation business together and, during the 1920s, 30s and 40s, Martie Bowman ferried planes from factories and regularly participated in air races.
