Description:
NY: Touchstone, 2004. 1st Edition. Hardcover. Fine/Fine. 1st printing, but with the alternate dust jacket promoting the upcoming (at the time) trade paper edition of this book. Publisher used apparently available 1st printing copies, created a new dust jacket employing the trade paper cover illustration. Cloth & boards. 291pp. The author's first book of now several excellent novels starring the Victorian London detective Cyrus Barker and his assistant, Thomas Llewelyn. Smart. Engaging style and word choices. Evocative of what we imagine late 19th century London was like. Smart and careful Christian overtones in the main character & definitely not "preachy." Well-researched. Fine in dj. A great read and one of my favorite detective fiction title choices. The author is a librarian in Oklahoma. Copies are difficult to find now & in many places used books stores have not heard of this author and for the collector, this alternate dj copy is a must.
