From the publisher

Idyllic urban oases offer inspiration to anyone yearning to add nature and serenity to an outdoor living space. Rooftop Gardens showcases some of the most unique and extraordinary outdoor spaces in New York City that urban dwellers have created as retreats from the daily chaos of life. A sumptuous array of gardens ranging in style from working to exotic fills the pages, a diverse selection befitting different scales and changing seasons. From the lush produce garden of Eli's Vinegar Factory to a glass-enclosed conservatory perched atop Park Avenue in which amaryllis, paperwhite narcissus, and cyclamen grow during the winter months, this stunning portfolio illustrates innovative and original ways to design one's own outdoor sanctuary--be it sky-high or ground level--and is a must-have for homeowners, decorators, and landscape architects alike.

Media reviews

“Just in time for spring comes Rooftop Gardens: The Terraces, Conservatories, and Balconies of New York by Denise LeFrak Calicchio and Roberta Amon, with photos by Norman McGrath that are so lifelike they could incite your sinuses if not your envy. These sanctuaries are, after all, intensely private, and ordinarily protected even from the view of ordinary mortals.” ~New York Times

"If it weren’t for Rooftop Gardens: The Terraces, Conservatories and Balconies of New York, a new book from Rizzoli by Denise LeFrak Calicchio and Roberta Model Amon, the only way to see most of these spaces would be by helicopter, telescope or a ride on the back of a superhero." ~New York Daily News

"...Garden porn for those who wistfullydaydream of indulging their every horticulturalwhim amid the skyscrapers—and inspiration forthose who actually have access to a rooftop spaceand aren’t quite sure what do to with it." ~New York Observer

"High above Sutton Place is a sprawling terrace dotted with sculptures by Murakami and Jeff Koons. If not for Rooftop Gardens... you'd never know it was there.
