The John Henry Saga Paperback -

David Michael Hall was born in Birmingham, Alabama in 1936. He attended Catholic Orphanages until about 12 years of age when through the grace of God, came to live on a farm, which he now owns located near LaFayette, Alabama in Chambers County where most of the John Henry Saga is set. He graduated from Auburn University on an Avondale Mills Scholarship, receiving his BS in Textile Chemistry and a commission as a 2nd Lieutenant in the US Army Reserve in 1958. He attended Clemson College on a Celanese Corporation of America fellowship graduating with a Masters degree in Textile Chemistry in 1962. He then attended the Victoria University of Manchester England on a British Empire Fellowship graduating in 1964 with his doctorate in Fiber and Polymer Chemistry. After a years post doctoral studies under a United States Department of Agriculture fellowship at the Swiss Federal Institute in Zurich, Switzerland, accompanied by his new bride, Florence Lorraine Barrett Hall, he accepted a position as an Associate Professor in his old department of Textile Engineering at Auburn University, ultimately being promoted to full Professor. He had a successful career retiring as Professor Emeritus after nearly 33 years of service. He also retired from the US Army after a career as a Reserve officer in the U S Army's Research and Development Command with the rank of Colonel. He is widely published in National and International journals, and the author of six textile textbook/reference books, and 35 US Patents. In 2007, his department designated him as their outstanding alumnus for that year. The ideas and rationale for the John Henry Saga came to him in his early days but it was only after prodding by his children, that he finally penned the Saga, completing it in 2009.
