A fine new copy. 320pp. This is a completely revised and redesigned new edition of the classic work first published in 2000. It has a great many new pictures not in the first edition plus many corrections and additions in the text. The book is about a group of young idealistic architects who tried to practice the medieval ideal, the arts and crafts ideal of William Morris and John Ruskin, of doing the work themselves on site, rather than directing things from a London head office through a local site manager. Churches, public buildings and houses are featured in equal measure. One of the leading figures in the book is Detmar Blow, others are Alfred Powell, Basil Stallybrass, A. Randall Wells, E. S. Prior, Herbert North, Geoffrey Lupton, Harold Falkner, Philip Tilden, William Weir. There is a full index and the book is illustrated with black and white photographs.
