Description:
Saint Petersburg: The State Hermitage Publishers, 2010. Hardcover. NF. Color-illustrated boards with matching magnetic flap. 208 pp. with color illustrations throughout. Text in Russian but for a one-page English summary at back. Stunning book of photos of a stash of silver formerly own by Mrs. Likhachyova and painstakingly restored by the labs at the Hermitage. These treasures became part of the Hermitage's collections in 1978, when they were discovered hidden in a factory on Vasilievsky Island. The works of art, dating from the late 19th and early 20th centuries, are of considerable historical and cultural significance and provide material for tracing trends in applied art and the aesthetics of St. Petersburg's bourgeois citizenry of the time before the revolution. This is the catalogue from the exhibition showing the newly-restored pieces.
