Survival in Auschwitz Paperback - 2007

English: Primo Levi (Turin 1919-1987), a survivor from Auschwitz, published his first book 'If This Is a Man' in 1947. Since the publisher Einaudi published it in 1958, is constantly reprinted and translated worldwide. It's a book about life in the camps, but especially the book of human dignity that resists the mass extermination. The book's title is deliberately ambiguous: the man can be the victim and/or the victimizer. There's a famous poetry that introduces the story: You who live safe in your warm houses ... In the author's preface to the text, he emphasizes that he doesn't want to add anything to what already was known of the fields of mass destruction, but writes with the intention of 'providing documents for a quiet study of certain aspects of the human '. The preface ends with a sentence that is also a warning to future generations: 'I think it goes without saying that none of the facts has been invented'. Nella prefazione dell'autore al testo, egli sottolinea di non voler aggiungere nulla a quanto già all'epoca si sapeva dei campi di distruzione di massa, ma scrive nell'intenzione di 'fornire documenti per uno studio pacato di alcuni aspetti dell'animo umano'. La prefazione si conclude con una frase che è anche un monito alle future generazioni: 'Mi pare superfluo aggiungere che nessuno dei fatti è inventato'.
