The Chinese Emperors accumulated a large quantity of extremely fine objets d'art from the four corners of their realm, and beyond, often brought as tributary to the Imperial Court. Each of these objects were meticulously catalogued and carefully stored within the appropriate treasury. In order to do so, each treasure required the fabrication of beautiful custom packaging, a craft that developed into its own separate art form.
