First edition of the first German translation - and one of the earliest - of the Jungle Book. One of 5000 copies printed. Title page, dedication page, and table of contents have been repaired with tape (browning) visible. Owner inscription on title page in pen. The author dedicated this title to his second son, Robert, and it is generally thought that Rob, the novel's protagonist, was based on Robert Baum. A unique story by the author of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.

The edition is limited to 975 numbered copies and 25 lettered review copies, all signed by Mr. Frasconi, Mr. Wescott, and Mr. Blumenthal. This copy is one of the 25 lettered copies (copy number "F"). In addition to the other three signatures, it is signed by Monroe Wheeler. In 1935 Wheeler was employed by New York's Museum of Modern Art (MOMA). He was on the Library Committee and in three years he was Director of Membership and the following year Director of Publications. Ownership bookplate on FFEPs. Vol. I external hinge has some external cracking to leather but still bound tightly. Light wear to the bindings.
