Chicago: Dixie-Vortex Company. Very Good. 1937. First Edition. Hardcover. These DIXIE CUP PREMIUMS were given to a patron when they had 12 collectible ice cream lids with miniature photos of stars. After collecting the 12 needed lids required to trade for one photo, most children decided it was better to keep all 12 lids rather than trade them for one photo therefore increasing the high collectibility and scarceness of the premiums. A series of 24 different stars were published for each year along with a special cover. I These full-color large-format premiums feature beautiful artwork and rich color printed on heavy card stock paper. Each premium was designed with a color stripe & two holes along the left edge for easy binding in a scrapbook. Each year the color of the stripe & the lettering changed; thus, although undated, each year's issue is distinctive. The reverse of each 8 x 10-inch premium features 1-black-and-white stills from the star's recent films along with a few short paragraphs about the star & 2- sports stars have action shots along with a summary of their sports career. This set includes 23 of the 24 photos issued in 1937. Both the front & back cover are also included. Condition ranges from VG to NF (near fine) . Entertainment, Movie Stars, Hollywood, Cowboys, Baseball. ; Large 8vo 9" - 10" tall; 23 pages .

Ballantyne & Co., London, 1907; First Edition Privately Printed; 8vo, 16 pages. Essay by Arthur Symons lamenting the dearth of native acting talent in Britain, reserving his highest praise for visiting Americans Edward H. Sothern and wife Julia Marlowe, whose Shakesperean talents he holds above reproach. "There is no actor on our stage who can speak either English or verse as these two Americans can.... Who is there on our stage who has completely mastered the first two requirements of acting? No one now acting in English except Julia Marlowe and Edward Sothern." Symons then goes on to cite examples from the couple’s recent performances in Romeo and Juliet , Hamlet., and Twelfth Night. Very Good Plus, in printed stiff wraps. Edward H. Sothern and Julia Marlowe’s engraved bookplate affixed. Pages unopened. A significant tribute, linking the British and American stages. Rare.
