The Zoological Society of Philadelphia thanks Howard Page Wood for the gift of one spiny soft-shelled turtle. Signed by the director, C. Emerson Brown. Undated. Clarence Emerson Brown (1869-1949) was director of the Philadelphia Zoo from 1922 to 1935. Howard Page Wood (1923-2010) was a child when he presented this turtle to the zoo; he later became an orchid collector and wrote the definitive work on the subject, "Dendrobiums." In Near Fine Condition: two horizontal creases; clean and bright.
