Wheatley: George Ronald, 1954. Book. Very Good+. Hardcover. Revised Edition. The fascinating memoirs of the late Assistant Conservator of Forests in Kenya and the southern provinces of Nigeria during the early to mid-nineteenth century during the heyday of British Imperial Empire in Africa, author became a 'blood brother' of the Kikuyu in Kenya and succeeded in reforesting vast swathes of territory. Author traveled widely across africa and became an initiate of the secret society of 'Kiama'. Has much information and insight into Afrikan folklore, animism, ju-ju, the 'language of the drums', much more. With a frontispiece of author, and an introduction by Bronislaw Malinowski, Professor of Anthropology at the University of London. Hardcover with dust jackedt, forty-eight black and white illustrations, 159pp., d.j. shows very light wear. A nice copy, the jacket neatly encased in an acid-free archival protector. A very rare collecti ble. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
