About This Item

Bruce Publishing Company, 1958. Hardcover. Good. Vintage Hardback Book is Good condition with a tight binding and mostly clean crisp internal pages. This is an ex-catholic school library book with the expected library markings. This is a Harder to Find title in this wonderful series. Outside cloth covers show some soiling and wear. Overall nice edition to your collection! No Dust Jacket. It was beginning to look as though John Tabb's bad eyesight would keep him from fighting in the Civil War when a family friend offered him a wonderful opportunity. The Confederacy needed someone with his good breeding and education to represent their government in foreign lands. His job would include being ship's clerk and would require him to pass in and out of harbors on a blockade-runner. Excitement, adventure, and suspense abound in the early life of John Bannister Tabb. Whether it's a daring plot to free prisoners from a Yankee prison or a thrilling sea chase, the reader will find himself cheering the courage and nerve of the people he meets. After the war and long months of imprisonment in Bull Pen, Point Lookout, Maryland, John Tabb returned home and found that his family fortune was gone. He now had to make a new life for himself. How John chooses a career and becomes a convert, a priest, a musician, a poet, and a most "unusual" teacher is told in this thrilling adventure story. Catholic Treasury Books are a series of books planned for readers 10 years of age or older. Taken from the great wealth of Catholic history, the books include true-to-life biographies and dramatic stories of persons and events which will make the reader proud of their Catholic heritage. Great to read aloud. This is a less common title in this wonderful series. Out of Print.
