Boston: Charles Bowen, c1839. Firs Edition. Very good in 1/2 leather (calf) and marbled paper covered boards with two black leather title blocks on the spine with gilt text stamping. The end sheets match the marbled paper on the covers. A 12mo of 7 1/4 by 4 1/2 inches with may be a cigarette burn mark to the leather at the upper edge of the front board next tot he spine and with the leather rubbed and worn at the edges of the spine and boards. There is a prior owner's stamp on the verso of the first free end page and on the recto of the facing page and on the last free end page. The hinges and joints are tight and strong and the contents are in excellent condition with no foxing or damage. 324 pages of text containing the almanac for the year 1839; table of latitude and longitude for principal cities; ephemeris of the sun; true apparent places of 35 of the Principal fixed stars; offices and officers of the United States; foreign ministers and consuls to the United States; records of the Navy, records of the Army; meteorological information; and records for each of the states of the United States.
