Hewitt, 1849, First edition. . full calf with gilt title lettering on black leather spine label, front joint with crack but firm, one signature partly sprung, very good copy with only slight foxing on few leaves. . 16mo [16.5 x 10 cm]; xxiv, [25] - 288 pp, numerous illustrations and plate, complete but pages 27-34 are bound in wrong order and the two-sided plate at page xi is often the frontis. . The author ran a nursery in Chelsea, Massachusetts and was the owner and editor of the Yankee Farmer. Hedrick p. 489:'A comprehensive treatise. . . It contained a great number of engravings of fruit, trees, insects and methods of grafting, budding and training'. There were several later editions because of its popularity. He describes many varieties of apples, peaches, pears, plums, cherries, grapes, small fruits, etc., with a brief description of wine making. A picture of this book is available on request by email.
