About This Item
New York: The Metropolitan Museum of Art / Harry N. Abrams, Inc, 1989. Hardbound. VG (DJ may be slighted sunned at spine; interior good.). Blue cloth, gilt letters on spine, blue & color illus. dust jacket. 320 pp. 52 bw, 169 color plates. Issued in conjunction with a 1989 exhibition of more than 130 examples of porcelain produced in America. "Contains an account of the development of the American medium from its beginnings through the unique examples of art pottery conceived in the first quarter of the twentieth century. In these pages are discussed more than a hundred and thirty masterpieces that illustrate the progress of a national accomplishment and chronicle the entrepreneurs, manufacturers, and artisans who brought it to fruition. For the most part, the examples are listed in chronological order, but two offshoots of true porcelain -- parian and Belleck -- are accorded separate sections." (dj).
