Harper & Brothers - Riddle Books No date. DJ has major tears and wrinkles - was taped to endpapers which had yellowed. Carefully removed and now covered in clean Brodart jacket. Green hardcover binding square and tight. Interior good with light wear, some stains and foxing, gift note on title page dated Christmas 1948. Each pages comical illusrations of common animals with description on opposite page - but each page is also split so depending on how each split half is turned, you could have a cow, an elephant OR a Cophant! the descriptions match the hilarious results. Later printing of this hilarious flap book that allows the reader to combine tops and bottoms of different animals, resulting in new descriptions for the hybrid. 8.25'' x 8.5''. Original cloth-backed color pictorial boards. No dust jacket. Illustrated in color throughout. [34] pages; 30 of which are divided into two parts, with illustration on one side and text on the other. Boards withsome wear to corners, one tiny scuff. Flyleaves with mild foxing. Leaves clean and bright.

Owner inscription of "Abigail Nancy Aldridge" at front pastedown, with blue ribbon seal affixed at front pastedown. CONDITION: Very good, corners worn, extremities worn, clean and tight interior. Date taken from time of merger between Harper & Brothers and Row, Peterson & Company of Evanston, Illinois.

Riddle Books, 1952. First Edition. Hardback. Very Good. 8x7x0. c 1950. "May We Divide Your Attention For A Moment". A book of two halves. there are 200 combinations of grotesque animals that can be made flipping the bottom and top halves of the page over to reveal and even funnier weird animal with an even weirder name. Boards very good with a bump to the base of the spine. The book doesn't seem to have had a jacket at the flaps form part of the cover and the front flap has the price clipped (probably 6/- shillings). Very good+ copy of a scarce TOY or ACTIVITY book from the early 1950's. Previous owners inscription on the title page

Edge wear does not distract from how fun this illustrated book.. 1 32 p. Illustrated black paper over boards: bewildered cartoon lion face on green w/ white front titles. Horizontal format. 9x8.5 in. Split pages creating different animals. It's an old trick, really well-done. Like on page left, a description of an elephant matches the comic artwork on the right, until a half page is turned, and a bewildered cheetah appears with elephant legs, but it's called a "Cheephant" with an odd description. Had the reader instead turned the lower right-hand page, one would see a top-heavy "Eleg" with curious legs. So there is seemingly unending fun herein, confusing maybe when families visit zoos or watch National Geographic shows.

Otherwise a very good copy.. First edition. Bi-sected pages lead to grotesque and hopefully amusing combinations.
