Published in Czech by a leading Czech bookseller and publisher. Complete in three volumes. Anna Karenina is a novel by Russian writer Leo Tolstoy, published in serial instalments from 1873 to 1877 in The Russian Messenger. Widely regarded as a pinnacle in realist fiction, Tolstoy considered Anna Karenina his first true novel, when he came to consider War and Peace to be more than a novel. Leo Tolstoy was a Russian writer, philosopher and political thinker and master of realistic fiction. Widely considered to be one of the world's greatest novelists, he is best know for the epic War and Peace and for his later spiritual awakening, after which he became a noted moral thinker and social reformer. Uniformly bound in half crushed morocco bindings with gilt detailing and red spine labels. Externally, smart with some light rubbing and bumping to extremities. Internally, firmly bound. Pages browned due to paper used but generally clean. Very Good Indeed

Synopsis

Anna Karenina is a novel by Leo Tolstoy, published in 1877. The story is set in 19th-century Russia and follows the life of Anna Karenina, a married woman who embarks on an affair with the wealthy Count Vronsky. As their affair becomes more passionate, Anna must grapple with the societal norms and expectations of her time, which view infidelity as a serious transgression. The novel explores themes of love, desire, societal expectations, and the consequences of our actions. It is considered one of the greatest works of literature and a masterpiece of realist fiction. The long novel was first serialized in the Russian periodical Ruskii Vestnik from 1873 to 1877, and first appeared in book form in 1878.
