About This Item

New York: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1933. Book. Near Very Good. Hardcover. Reprint. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. Hardcover, royal octavo bound in black cloth lettered in gold on spine and with large color pictorial paste-down on front cover. 339 pages, with a single page of publisher's ads appended. Illustrated with 9 full page color plates by Maxfield Parrish. Early reprint of this title, still containing nine plates [the first edition by Scribner, published in 1909, contained twelve, this number continually whittled down until finally in the 1940's only six remained]. Previous owner's name reconditely located on rear free end-paper. Black cloth shows moderate mottling and front paste-down darkened from age soiling/dust. Spine lettering dulled but still quite readable. A sound, tight copy, hinges strong, interior unmarked and all color plates collated and in fine condition. A near very good copy of a nice vintage edition of this children's classic, edited by two famous children's book authors and illumed by the most famous book illustrator of the early twentieth century. .
