"Notice of Le Sage" (p. xiii-xxiv) signed Jules Janin (1804-1874). Illustrations by Kitty Shannon. Originally published as Le Diable Boiteux, Paris, 1707. A demon is released from a bottle where he had been imprisoned by an astrologer. He takes his liberator on a tour of Madrid, which is a satirical portrait of Paris society and was considered in times past a "naughty" book. Vg, top and bottom of spine frayed/no dj.
