First edition. 8 x 10-1/2 inches. With large engraved 'Carte Generale Pour l'Intelligence de la Guerre de Sept-Ans' and related Battle Plans for Lowositz, Prague, Kollin, Roisbach, Breslau, lagemdorf, Leuthen, Zomdorf, Hohenkirch, Cunersdorf, Minden, Zullichau, Maxen, Landshut, Lignitz, Torgau, Reichenbach, Freyberg (lacking Plate XIII --Battle of Krefeld). (19 of 20 plates, virtually all folding). Comtemporary worn leather spine and leather label with gilt type and 5 gilt stars and double rules. Paper covered boards with worn edges, cover is in fair condition and needs rebinding. Internally one map, #6, has a 2" border tear with 1 inch going into map, a few maps with light foxing on outside borders, otherwise the engravings are very good, fresh, dark impressions.

Third part of his books on the wars of Frederick II. The fourth part will be published in 1809 under the same title.

(1807) *Antoine-Henri Jomini, Treaty of major military operations, or Relation of critical and comparative campaigns of Frederick and Napoleon, with a compendium of the most important maxims of the art of war, justified by the actions of these two great captains, by Colonel Jomini used near His Majesty the Emperor Napoleon, with maps and plans, third and fourth parts, 2 vols., Paris, and Giguet Michaud, Magimel, 1807 and 1809. Must accompany this Atlas of the Treaty of major military operations by Colonel Jomini employee of Her Majesty the Emperor Napoleon, Paris, and Giguet Michaud, Magimel, 1807.

In 1806, he published an Atlas Jomini Treaty great tactic. The same year, before the volumes III and IV, Volume V published his Treatise, concerning the early campaigns of the French Revolution . His publishers had asked him to arouse the interest of readers with tales of more recent events . The fifth book was also published under the title Relation critical campaigns of the French against the coalition since 1792. In January 1807, Jomini finished the third part of his book on the wars of Frederick II and this time he titled Treaty (sic) major military operations. The fourth part will be published in 1809 under the same title. In 1811, volumes 5 and 6 appeared under the title History critique and military campaigns of the Revolution. It will be the same in 1816 for volumes 7 and 8. The third edition of the Treaty of major military operations will take more than the wars of Frederick II. Criticism and military history of the wars of the Revolution now constitute a distinct work.

Antoine Henri Baron Jomini (1779-1869) was born in Switzerland and so impressed Napoleon with his grasp of strategy that he was transferred from the Swiss army to the Grand General Staff. He fought at Austerlitz and was promoted to General de Brigade in 1807. He joined the Allies in 1813 and immediately became Aide-de-Camp to the Tsar. His brilliance as a strategist ensured his influence over several generations of officers and his military philosophy found expression on the battlefields of the American Civil War. Jomini's first book which began to build his reputation as a serious military thinker.
